In your smb.conf add a share like this :


[share1]
        path=/some/path/here
        public=yes
        browsable=yes
        read only = no

then see if you can mount that 

If that works then just firewall smb and leave it alone ;-)

Samba settings seem to be there and sharing setup looks OK. It was 
first setup through GUI then modified in smb.conf

The Mac can see the PC via a SMB connection but all users/passwords are 
rejected still.
