[wellylug] Canon Scanner on Slackware 10.1, invalid group problem

Hello people.

I have recently put linux on my desktop machine. I have been using linux as a 
server for about 1 yr so I know some of the linux concepts but most of it is 
still stuff that is quite new to me.

I have a USB Canon Scanner I would like to get working. I plugged in the 
cables and booted my computer. The hardware decetion, hotplug rc script seems 
to have found it but it echos the error:

 chown root:scanner invalid group

can anyone help me get this setup?
