Hi John. 

Thanks for that. It is an interesting article. Although the link at the end no 
longer seems to exist :( a shame because I would have liked to see the 
"Windows shining scanner moment."

I have managed to find the images I was wanting hidden on one of my old ntfs 
disks so I can now afford the time to just amble my way thru the problem and 
maybe not buy anymore canon stuff in the future. I think I'v been able to 
gain some understanding of the way scanners work on linux after reading the 
article.
