My 2c.
When moving house forced a downgrade from cable to DSL, I tried two D-Link 302's
and two 504's (4 units in total) and found them to be pretty unreliable, mainly
due to overheating (as well as feature limited). I also went through Linksys,
Billion and a Tricky Dicky $99 special** before settling on my Netgear DG834G
which has been rock solid, linux based, heaps of features, and worked seamlessly
with Dyndns.

Leaving that aside, what I found with experience is these 'bundled deal'
router/modems are better used as a bargaining chip. Negotiate with your chosen
provider to apply the discount you would enjoy on the router to reduce your
initial connectivity costs or to buy you some 'free' months of service. You'd
be surprised at how co-operative they can be :)

Then go buy yourself a 'proper' one .....

** Cat no. XH1151, this actually wasn't bad at all. Used embedded linux, just a
limited feature set for me. Ascent also did them under another brand name which
I can't recall :(
