[wellylug] Problems with updating Suse 9.3

i have a friend who had some auto-updating weirdness similar to yours using 
novell linux desktop 9 (ased on SuSE 9).
the problem occurs if you update from cd before updating online. can't 
remember off the top of my head whether he was using YAST or something else. 
he ended up having to reinstall to get it to work again. apparently, if you 
can find some way to unset your update history and run an online update 
before trying any other source.
