IANALE but my past experience suggests it still won't be legal.  I
belonged to a club at university (membership fee required) which
wanted to screen foreign language films at club meetings and had to
pay a copyright fee.

I'm sure that is the big movie companies had their way, you couldn't
even show a movie to your family without paying extra.
