[wellylug] Oddness with ubuntu

I have just installed a second U320 disk in my PeeCee, however the
Ubuntu 5.10 install really fouls up.

Disks are setup like so

IDE1 - 160gb Data (No Os)
SCSI Chanel A - 36.4gb U320 (WindowsXP)
SCSI Chanel B - 36.4gb U320 (Ubuntu)

The problem is this - Ubuntu's installer/partationer sees SCSIB as
/dev/sdf and SCSIA as /dev/sda BUT grub sees SCSIB as /dev/sdb (which I
think is correct)

So ubuntu happily installs and adds a entry to grub with root=/dev/sdf1.
this causes a kernel panic on reboot. it was easily fixed by making
root=/dev/sdb1

My real question is this - which is right the kernel/module or grub ?
and how can I get them to agree ?
