Okay, some people's spoken English is "unique" to say the least. But
handwriting is much less important now.

I've never have very good handwriting. It's readable, but it ain't that
nice or fast.
But the fact of life is that it isn't needed much. I use it for notes,
shopping lists, etc, but that's all. Everything else is done on the
computer, which is much faster than writing by hand.
The only people who seem to use it, are schools. :-)
In fact, the NCEA English exams are very hard, as they expect you to be
able to write pages and pages in just a short amount of time. Give me a
keyboard, and I could do it much faster, with better quality.
Plus, when writing on computers, your English is usually better quality,
as it's so easy to change things. Handwritten work is not very easy to
change, as you usually have to rewrite it afterwards.
Anyway, that's what I think. Someone will surely disagree (as is the
usual way the world works).
