Intercepted AND modified.

Emails get intercepted all the time, mostly by SMTP servers :)

(Interestingly, the definition for 'intercept' includes 
interruption/blockage as well as 'view without hindering passage' - a 
netball when intercepted doesn't reach it's intended recipient, but an 
intercepted telephone call would). Of course, if an email is destructively 
intercepted then it's not really going to matter to the intended recipient 
whether it's signed or not.
