In Debian GNU/Linux, the appropriate packages are called rar (create
archive) and unrar (extract from archive). They are both listed as
'non-free', which means they cannot be freely redistributed. Indeed,
the rar package is shareware (you pay money if you keep using it).
The fact that a free package does not exist for one version of Linux
(Debian) does not mean it does not exist for another (Xandros), but as
Xandros is Debian-based, it's probably not a bad guide.
