Because if some "advertising" is allowed by the rules, then people tend
to interpret those rules to suit themselves. And we have yet more (:-))
arguments about what is and isn't allowed. It also tends to be a
slippery slope down towards spam (IME of 15 years online).
"No advertising" has the advantage of being a concise rule, with
no built-in exceptions for people to misinterpret in their favour.
Jeremy and I are happy to preview anything that people think may be
borderline and say yay/nay or suggest an alternative way to word it.
(And there's wlug-trade for those that prefer their Linux discussion
with adverts.)
This meta-discussion should probably move to wlug_org. Let's get back
to talking about Linux here.
