Don't do that.  Asking questions and trying things never hurts -- and
last time I looked at an ADSL modem I seriously considered a USB device
because I /did/ want direct access to the ATM stack. :)

Billion modems are reputed to work well and are, as I understand things,
available in NZ.  The DynDNS people recommend running a client on a real
computer since none of the modem based options do, in their opinion,
well.
