There really isn't much difference: CDRoast and all the other GUI CD
creation tools don't actually know how to record a CD -- they just call
one of cdrecord or cdrdao to do the work for them.

Since the GUI is driving the same underlying tool you should, all things
being equal, have the same reliability.  The GUI could, of course, be
passing crappy options to the tool or doing something silly with the
setup, of course, that caused problems. ;)
