In May, Brent Wood kicked off a project to get a Community Education
class for OpenOffice taught from Newlands College in early October
2007.
That's only a few weeks away, in real terms :-)
I had originally offered to present the class, but external
circumstances mean that I can't do it; there were other volunteers
originally, I'd like to know if they would still be available?
Regardless, I'm happy to help organise the planning process. I've put
up a wiki site to co-ordinate the lesson plans - please see
http://ooo.inode.co.nz/twiki/bin/view/Main/T430Oct2007
Given that the prospectus description was pretty vague and said only
"This "Open Office" alternative will astound you with both quality and
possibilities for use in your home.", I think the course will be best
served as a run through each of the main modules of OOo. There will be
a USB key donated by DSE given to each student (not sure of the
capacity but I'm confident it's big enough), so we will be able to
load this up with the current installer (c. 100MB for Windows), user
guide and other official documents (c. 30MB all up), as well as lesson
plan materials.
Please follow up this thread with comments and ideas, reply directly
to me or have a hack at the wiki!
