hi all,

For those of you who use CentOS 5.5 (or RHEL) beware, that there may be
a problem with Samba and Xen.

Make sure you update a development machine before taking 5.1 into
production. If you don't have a development machine, I suggest you wait
a bit before deploying or deploy with care.

1) SAMBA

After upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1, Samba would crash and do a backtrace
and dump whenever my Linux PC tried to access the samba share. Log
output is attached for anyone interested.

Interestingly, the Samba share functioned okay for a WinXP machine.

Downgrading to the samba package to samba-3.0.23c-2.el5.2.0.2 (CentOS)
5.0 resolved the issue for me.

This was experienced on a x86_64 machine, so I'm going to double check
the samba problem on an i386 instance.

2) XEN

I had very weird behaviour from Xen, where it would refuse to start any
DomUs, complaining about the vir0

After much debugging it suddenly started working, so I will need to
check this out further.

cheers,
