They're calling it a "phased deployment", and asking all the IT sysadmins
etc. to start migrating immediately. As most of our laptops and desktops
are below Microsoft recommended specs for Vista, it will take over a year
for this to happen presumably. All the more reason for me to accelerate my
Linux job hunting activities...
Honestly, IMHO the industry is just shooting themselves in the foot with
this DRM and Vista interhardware cryptographic requirements. It forces
people to find alternatives. Take DVD regional encoding: I have bought
DVDs online from Amazon in the U.S, from the UK and from Japan due to
availability issues. However, using an XP machine limits the amount of
times I can switch my "regional" settings, and the only remaining
alternative is to use Linux and decss. This is so I can watch the movies
that I legally purchased!
Every time I have friends over to watch a film, I enjoy firing up the
projector, watching them watch the boot sequence: yes, this is Linux we
are using to watch this 5.1 channel movie :-) and it looks and sounds
GREAT.
HA HA!
