The video card probably can't cope with the resolution of the monitor, did it
run OK from the Live CD?
What MB is the video card? If it's under 2MB you'd be OK running the monitor
at 800x600 at 24bit colour depth.
Use the following formula to work out the minimum amount of Video Ram needed:
HR x VR x CD / 8,388,608 = Min video ram
HR=Horizontal Resolution of monitor
VR=Vertical Resolution of monitor
CD=Colour Depth (8bits=256 Colours, 16bit=65,536, 24=16,777,216,
32bit=4,294,967,296)
