Ok, I removed the quotes on lines 33 and 22 (where the original error 
messages related). On re-starting the server now, the original errors 
come up as:
[warn] The alias directive in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/modecideas.com 
line 33 will probably never match because it overlaps an earlier Alias
[warn] The alias directive in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/modecideas.com 
line 22 will probably never match because it overlaps an earlier Alias
Syntax error on line 23 of /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/modecideas.com 
*direct to non-URL

Is that more revealing?
