Hi Rob,

Like you, I've recently been dabbling with video
editing, and here are my impressions, which I
humbly and freely admit are those of a newbie.

I found no video editing software that was totally
satisfactory, but my favorite is called
"kdenlive". It was stable and fairly intuitive to
learn. 

I believe that blender is hard to learn, kino has
limited functionality, lives hung my entire
computer, and there was a problem with cinelerra,
the specific nature of which I've forgotten.

I suggest starting with kdenlive, and if it
doesn't do everything you need, consider mixing
and matching functionality from other
applications, like kino.
