Hello WellyLUGgers!
I've introduced myself in a previous
post<http://lists.wellylug.org.nz/pipermail/wellylug/2007-June/017485.html>,
but the short version is that I'm a South African Linux geek, I run a small
open source consulting company, and my wife and I are coming to visit NZ in
Aug, to meet the tech community, make friends and potential business
connections. (We're giving serious thought to immigration - want to raise
our kids somewhere safe!)
I'd love to attend the WellyLUG meeting in August, I'm assuming it'll be
towards the middle of the month?
I'm no super-guru, but I've had some experience in various open source /
tech segments, and I could give a presentation, if you'd have me?
I was thinking about some of the items I could speak on, and came up with
the following list. (also on my
blog<http://dave.blogs.funkypenguin.co.za/2007/07/10/professor-penguin-i-could-give-a-talk-on/>
)
- Creating a "super-router" with OpenWRT : How to take a regular
Linksys router, flash the firmware with open source software, and end up
with a far more powerful product, capable of enterprise WPA2->Radius
authentication, WDS, VPN, etc.
- Penetration testing on a wireless network: How to break the
encryption on WEP and WPA, via brute force or packet injection. How insecure
is your network?
- How to secure your network against WEP / WPA intrusion by using
Radius authentication, on your "super-router". (above)
- How to setup a simple Asterisk PBX, using Trixbox.
- DIY PVR using MythTV.
- Setup a great blog, using open source software.
- Setting up a Squid Proxy Server with Active Directory authentication
to generate internet usage reports by user.
Will ya have me? ;)
