[wellylug] Using DVDs and iPods on Linux

Hi everyone,

a few days ago I installed Xubuntu on my laptop. No major problems, I
use Linux 90% of the time and is very fast, however, I am still having
to switch to XP whenever I want to burn a CD, watch a DVD or use my
iPod. To be more specific:

- GXine, the player bundled with my OS, doesn't play DVDs at all,
although it can play audio CDs. However, it won't read mp3, Apple AAC
or m4a files, it can only pick up WAV files.

- Can anyone recommend a good CD burner for Linux?

- I need a program that will pick up my iPod, preferably something that
offers the same functionality as iTunes. I've tried googling a few, but
had trouble installing them. Does anyone know any good downloads that
will actually work?

- Incidentally, how does one enable start up music? Does Linux have a
default start up sound like Windows?

Thanks,
David
