[wellylug] Sound across a network - OpenBSD.

Well... GIYF

I assume that
$ cat filename.wav > /dev/audio
does something.. and /dev/audio is a 'file' so you should be able to
use dd to copy the audio stream via scp/ssh to another box and pipe
it into /dev/audio on the other. I've used that for backups of files
before with nary a lost bit, so I assume audio would work.

Of course something like VLC (VideoLanClient) probably copes better
with latency/dropped packets etc. I've used it to play video remotely
-- so I assume audio would be peachy fine.

<http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/145> has an article on
abusing netcat and fifo to pipe Queen to all the machines in your
house simultaneously ;)

Of course you could always use my solution, and re-wire a RJ45 plug
with an audio/video jack and run sound and video down a spare pair or
two. Of course you may need to wire your house, or just run cables
down the hallway.

People have had some success getting the Airport express <http://
www.apple.co.nz/airportexpress/> working with linux.. and you can
hang your NAS off it too.

Lots of possible solutions.
