[wellylug] Xsane no longer recognising scanner

I have regularly been using xSane to access my Epson stylus CX3500
multi-function printer's scanning mode with 100% success.  Today when I
went to use it however, I get the error message "no devices available".
This is despite my printer being switched on and able to used in printer
mode.  I looked in the xSane man page, but it does not appear to offer
any options for manually selecting my scanner.  Any ideas as to what I
should be doing next to get this working again?  This is all running
under Debian.
