Mine doesn't, and many don't - they use Picture Transfer Protocol -
which depending on the implementation, might 'mount' the camera as a
disk. http://libptp.sourceforge.net/ helps ;)
According to http://www.i3a.org/ptp_homepage.html#products PTP is
implemented in "95% of consumer-targeted digital cameras sold in 2005
from virtually every major manufacturer"
