I have found in my fiddlings with X that the log file
contains (too) much useful information as to what has gone
on and what decisions X has made in starting up.

For a quick look you seem to have defined the second monitor
as 800x600 in one place and then given it 1280x1024 &
1024x768 in another. X may wel have thrown it's hands up in
dismay and given up on trying to dual head your system.

Also did you include the entire xorg.conf? It looked a
little short on some info to me. (I don't have a linux
system here at work to check against, so I may be recalling
things incorrectly)
