That seems ridiculously slow in both cases.  Those are the sort of
speed I'm used to getting from 802.11g wifi (2.5 - 3 MB/sec).
100baseT should be giving 10 - 11 MB/sec and gigibit should give you
your raw hard disk speed (usually 30 - 40 MB/sec) or faster if it's
program-to-program communication.
