[wellylug] ubuntu feisty crap

I am F....G furious
I know about "at my own risk" open source stuff, however, I just
upgraded an AMD to Feisty and TADA .....  doesnot boot thanks to a mdadm
story... Device doesnot exist blababla, 
I have LVM on this machine..... is it the conflict  ?
Now after 2 more hours on the net I found that I need to modify  the
init scripts but as usual the answer is not complete and does not say
where to find the init scripts on ubuntu .. 
Any help appreciated before I go to DSE and get VISTA ..... just kidding
