Yeah, there are some advantages.
But I would prefer something I can fully control and adjust. Then again,
I'm not part of the "I just want it to work when I plug it in" crowd.
Also, how useful is the AppleTV if you aren't running itunes to feed it
media?

Not all desktops are alike - you can get small form factor PCs which are
often very quiet.
And even the average brand-name machine is usually inaudible once you
start playing music or videos.
