If they're Mac compatible then they're Linux compatible, they'll just
be using the standard USB mass storage protocol.
Now, for point 2 you'll be stuck with the 2.5" ones. With prices from
Ascent you're looking at $40 for the enclosure and around $130 for
100GB of disk.
