thanks for that, I didn't know about adding those repositories in synaptic, now
I do. I got mc. My sources file was the same apart from one line on mine was
commented out which I changed and then it matched yours.

Also I had a look at the properties in synaptic where is lists flash plugin as installed (says via alien),
as it still wasn't working and I copied the libflashplayer.so from /usr/lib/
wherever over to my ~/.mozilla/plugins and it now works! I am not sure what
I am doing/did but to test it out I went back to the .mozilla/plugins dir
and renamed the flashplayer file to something else. Then I opened Firefox and
said about:plugins and it again said installed, and gave the file name as the new
one I had just renamed it to, so I guess it gets the flashplayer from there.
Confused, but all working.
