The best book I have read about this subject is "Windows to Linux
Migration" I can lend you mine if you want
Also you have many options - you can auth linux against windows servers
with winbind. Or you can auth windows against linux with samba (in both
AD and NT4 Domain)
I have done all three - if you need guidance give me a shout and I will
help where I can

Windows Active Directory contains an LDAP server. Do you want to use
that for authentication? Or do you want to authenticate Windows users
using LDAP in a workgroup situation?
