I'm using Woosh, and have had no problems when using Kubuntu ;)

If you think it will be a while before you settle down, you could get a data
card from vodafone or telecom.
The handy thing about this, is that it will work almost anywhere in
Wellington, which is idea if you have downtime during interviews, and will
also be useful once you do find a place, but have to wait before the
internet connection gets activated.
I use a vodem on a 1G plan myself, and get decent performance out of it,
especially around the city. Only problem is the limited amount of the data.

The other option is that if your hostel is in the CBD, use the CafeNet wifi

I can't comment on Woosh, have never used them. There's also another company
around now called NZ Wireless, although my dealings with them have found
their services to be a bit unreliable.
