Hi y'all...
Looks like I'm back in Wgtn for a while. My wife was hit by a car (driver on
cellphone) while I was down in Antarctica, & it looks like some long term
health problems from this will stop my travels for a while....
Lindsay, I don't see an installfest & expo as exclusive. The last two 'fests I
organised seemed to have as much interest in the various presentations as in
Linux installs. I would think that presentations, workshops, demonstrations &
installs all fit well under an "EXPO" banner.
While I'm happy to organise a small 'fest with a few presentations, (noting
that if I'm not around, no-one else steps up, so last year there wasn't one), I
certainly don't have the skills, knowledge or time to organise a serious expo,
and this suggests it is unlikely anyone else will take this on from Wellylug.
Though I'm happy to be proved wrong!!
Personally, I think that NZOSS is a more appropriate group to do this than
Wellylug, as a national organisation with more corporate involvement.
After the success of last years NZ Open Source Awards, & with events like
Software Freedom Day, it may be better if such an expo looked at having all
these events somewhat concurrently? That is sort of what an expo implies to me
anyway.
Cheers,
Brent
