> Any good experiences with ups for the small office?

I've found Mastec in Auckland to be very good people to deal with. I don't
know about any local suppliers.. I've brought from them a couple of times
(2nd hand units only), and their service has been very good. Quick and
friendly to deal with, willing to give free advice, and very good when it
comes to trading with them.

I use a couple of Omni Smart units, one here at home and one at my work. The
one at home is old, runs a couple of servers as well as 2 switches (one 24
port), a wireless/4port switch, and the ADSL. It last at least a couple of
hours when the power goes down. We've had some extensive power cuts at times
that the servers and internet have survived.

And, just a few weeks ago, the screw connector that connects between the mains
cable off the street and the mains for the house failed. On a windy day, that
caused alot of flickering of the lights, and occaisional drop outs of TV's
and other devices. With stuff like that happening, there would've been lots
of dips and surges in the power and I am surprised we didn't lose anything
like the freezer or a TV or two as a result. But, the machines covered by the
UPS were fine, they got fed nice clean power constantly.

The one at work runs the work computer and monitor. No idea how long it lasts,
it's intent is only to give us enough time to shut the machine down if
there's a power cut.

I would reccomend the use of them, as not only do they give you some life in
the event of a power cut but they also give you good clean power, getting rid
of spikes and dips. They also act as a surge protector that works far better
than those dinky little plastic toys you can buy to put on your power points.

Hope this is of some use,
David
