[wellylug] Ubuntu LTS Desktop vs Server

Hi Folks,

I'm interested in Long-Term Support, and (for other reasons too) am soon 
going to Ubuntu 8.04.1

I see that the Server version gets 5 years of updates, while the Desktop 
version only gets 3 years.  (To give you an idea of how addicted =I= am 
to cutting edge technology... I reluctantly retired my Win98 system 2 
years ago.)

Please, what are the pitfalls that I don't see in...
- Installing the Server version of Ubuntu.
- Ignoring and not installing all the Server-specific apps and utilities.
- Loading up just the user applications (e.g. Open Office, browser, 
email client, multimedia goodies, etc.).
And just treating it like a de facto Desktop system, but with 5 years of 
bug fixes and security patches?
