I don't use Yast so I can't provide any advice on how that should work.

However, I do not think that you can turn an existing partition into a
RAID 1 partition without causing data loss. You need a blank partition
to build the RAID on.

I imagine Suse has tools to allow you to install with RAID on the
installer - I know RHEL + Fedora allow you to configure RAID at install
time.

Otherwise there are steps to take to convert a non-RAID 1 system into a
RAID 1 configuration, but they are tricky and requires a good
understanding of software RAID - you should be able to find some
tutorials on the web and I think there are some HOWTOS floating around
for converting to RAID 1.
