[wellylug] penguins on a plane

hi all,

I recently took a flight on a plane fitted out with Air New Zealand's
new per-seat entertainment on demand systems.

Before we took off, the cabin staff rebooted the whole entertainment
system, and gave me a chance to see what was running.

It appears that the individual seat computers are running Linux, which
boots up into an X windows environment. :-)

Nice to see another example of Linux use in the real world. :-)

At one stage, there was a glitch and I saw the windows task menu appear
briefly whilst watching a video.

My suspicions are that the seat computers run Linux which then
establishes some kind of terminal server connection to a back-end
windows server, which provides the interface and content.

Anyone know the details about how this system works? My curiosity has
been invoked. :-)

regards,
jethro
