I can't speak for those exact models, but I got a Acer Aspire
AS5920-5A2G16Mi from Dick Smith and installed Ubuntu Hardy. The only
hiccup is the sound doesn't work through the internal speakers.
Apparently there is a fix for that but I haven't investigated since I
always use headphones anyway. There were no problems getting X to work
or using an external display/projector and the built-in wireless
networking just worked too.
In fact it took less time to download the Ubuntu ISO, burn the CD,
install Ubuntu and install all the updates; than it took to "complete
the setup" of the pre-installed Windows Vista. The internal speakers
just work under Vista but the wireless was a complete pain in the neck
(it eventually worked though).
Cheers
