[wellylug] FWD: Install Linux OS - Asterisk

Hi

I suggest one of the following Asterisk distros:
- Trixbox CE, which is available either as a bootable install CD-ROM or
VMWare image. I have been running Trixbox CE for several years on a junk PC
(currently Pentium 700 MHz with 256 MB memory and 8 GB hard disk).
- PBX in a Flash, which is available either as a bootable install CD-ROM or
VMWare image. PBX in a Flash is a fork of Trixbox CE. I am contemplating
replacing Trixbox CE with PBX in a Flash at my next upgrade.
- AsteriskNOW, which is available only as a bootable install CD-ROM. The
install is similar to Trixbox and PBX in a Flash, the telephony
configuration is simpler (and less capable).

No prior Linux knowledge is required for any of these options. Telephony
configuration is done from a web browser.

As an alternative to VMWare under Windows 2000, you might consider
installing from CD-ROM on a junk PC. Each of these distros installs and runs
perfectly well on a Pentium 400 MHz with 128 MB memory and 8 GB hard disk.

Good luck.

Alick Wilson
