That's a very slippery slope that you're approaching there.

Wellylug's choice,[0] to date, has been to have a "no advertising"
policy on its mailing list, and it's been in the monthly reminder
posting for the last 3-4 years.  Wellylug is of course free to change
that policy, providing it accepts the consequences of doing so.[1]

Any further discussion about this belongs on the wlug_org.

[0] Yes, it is a requirement of this hosting of the mailing list.  Every
previous time this has come up Wellylug has chosen to stay with the
hosting that has the "no advertising" requirement, so it _is_ Wellylug's
choice.

[1] Which includes moving to a new mailing list host.  Since there's a
separate domain name for the mailing list with some care that should be
seamless.  IME the more advertising and other noise there is, the less
technical it becomes, and the less useful the list becomes.  But to each
their own.
