[wellylug] A "simple" install

Hi Adam,

Out of interest, how old is the box (mainboard/cpu age & spec to ensure
your not trying to slap a multi hundred giga drive in an original
pentium and expecting it to work).

Other thoughts are to boot from the debian netinstall disk, select
rescue mode (it's actually optional but probably the easiest way), mount
both the root, /boot and /usr partitions, and bind mount /dev /proc
and /sys from the existing host os, and then chroot to the target fs,
and then run grub from the command line and install grub from within
iteslf (I actually find it the most reliable way with grub legacy) with
the following commands.

"root (hd0,1)" and
"install (hd0)"

If you need further details on how to get through the earlier stages,
let me know, or post me offlist if you want "on-site" help. (I do
debian support.)

Regards,
