[wellylug] Using a Vodafone 3G/3GBB Modem with Linux

I currently use one of these with my Eee PC-901 (Xandros OS)
and an old Acer # 4315 (Fedora 11). The Eee has an 3G applet
and the Acer something similar. Both work, although the
modem's accessory 2GB Micro SD card is not recognised (it
was with Fedora 10!). One cannot access the modem's software
where one can modify it's operation - like locking it to
3GBB/3G/GPRS.
I have come up against a brick wall, however, when I tried
to use the modem with an Acer Aspire One, the original. It
recognises the modem's presence, but that's all. The modem
will not operate.
Anyone out there got a solution?
