I have a WRT150N running DD-WRT.
Before choosing DD-WRT I reviewed several other firmwares, including Tomato
and OpenWRT.
All have merit.
What I was looking for beyond the Linksys standard firmware was VPN server
and QoS.
Good points:
- rock solid through several releases
- nice GUI, obviously closely related to the Linksys standard firmware both
in look and feel and in core feature set
- lots of useful extended features
DD-WRT supports RADIUS, but I have not looked into it.
I have used DD-WRT wireless power setting to increase power from default 70
to 140 to improve reception by iPhone. Maximum power is 251. I would have
liked to increase to maximum power but I have read that there can be a
danger of overheating the wireless chip.
I run the standard version of DD-WRT. What versions can be run depends upon
router memory size. In some cases it may be necessary to install the mini or
micro version as a first step after which it is possible to upgrade to a
larger version.
As a correction to an earlier post, I believe that other than the x86
versions, the software is GPL licenced - refer gpl.txt at
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv3/dd-wrt/downloads.html. Source code is on the
DD-WRT website.
Depending upon the feature set required, I highly recommend DD-WRT.
