Unfortunately this is a good article - certainly reflects my own
experience of Karmic upgrades or fresh installs. And of Jaunty and
Intrepid and Hardy and..... Fortunate are those in the claimed 10% who
have a flawless install, and I look forward to the release where I have
zero issues to work through. It is just so random as to which things,
previously working, will now not. And the fix for something on one
machine will not necessarily be so for the same issue on another.
Personally I can tolerate this, I guess as a fairly early adopter I have
to, and remain a (k)ubuntu installer/supporter/user and look forward to
seeing how the next release goes. However I'm not prepared to hand out
disks to friends or family and be confident of them having a good
experience without being prepared to spend plenty of time resolving an
unknown number of random issues. I agree with the article, it's not a
good look and the opportunity to be a 7-killer at some level is gone.
Next time maybe.
Worth the read.
Cheers,
Roger
