[wellylug] Critical Review of Karmic Koala

I rather agree with the article. All things considered - including
cost and accessibility - Ubuntu is possibly the best OS there is but
they have to be careful not to embarrass the Linux world and yet we
get a steady stream of regressions with each release.
In my own experience static IPs, dial-up (presence and permissions),
vidoe viewing and editing, and Samba all worked and subsequently
failed.

Is it possible that Intrepid was shipped with NOONE setting a static
IP to find out if they could or that Karmic shipped with noone trying
to fire up Samba

80% of the users would rather pay money and fight viruses than use a
system that fails in odd ways and requires recourse to a series of
arcane commands to bail them out.

Against that Ubuntu now looks good, runs most propriety software when
required and is user friendly and actually works at least 95% of the
time.

But what worries me most of all is the conspiracy of silence that many
Freesoftware users assume is normal. The easiest way to destroy a
system is to pretend that problems don't exist and that ignoring
things will make them go away.

Ubuntu is so close to being a top class everyday system that it
deserves the compliment of criticism.
