By upgrade, I'm not meaning from windows, if that's that you're saying?!
It's the Intrepid > Jaunty > Karmic I'm referring to, which does have an
upgrade path.
And to be fair, if I remove from the equation issues with flash,
vmware-server and a DNS issue related to a d-link router (that 9.04 was
OK with), all of which could be argued to not be KK issues, then the
fresh install (using an existing /home partition) on this particular box
would have "just worked".
The other side of this though, is that you can't claim a "ready for the
desktop" distro and give disks to friends and family if they have no
sound watching a youtube video or even get on the internet. That's a
really bad look. Doesn't stop me though, I've even gone an entire
release with unresolved sound issues on flash (I didn't care THAT much
at the time), and won't stop me putting it on someone else's machine so
long as I can be there to hold their hand and sort through what ever arises.
