"Silicon Plains" as it gets called.

There are a lot of electronics and embedded system companies in
Christchurch. They are mostly centred around Trimble, Allied Telesyn
Research and PayGlobal in Addington/Riccarton and the CII in the CBD.

Wellington is a lot stronger on IT services and software development,
but there is a lot of embedded software and increasing amounts of web
development in Christchurch.

In summary: Wellington - mostly software. Christchurch - mostly hardware.
