The Windows license is an issue - if your old PC came with Windows then the license for that is an 'OEM' license, meaning it is invalid in any new PC. If you bought a boxed set of Windows XP, then you are OK to move it around but then of course you would have the installation disks as well. It's probably not in anyone's interests to help you make your PC illegal - although the Ubuntu and hardware mods would be easy enough.
If you're buying a new PC and want Windows for MYOB then you would probably want to get one as a package with a new OEM Windows 7 license, and then install the licensed software you want on it. If you don't want Windows, then I'm sure plenty of people would be happy to be involved with setting up Wine/Crossover to get MYOB running, and you'll be impressed at the ability of Ubuntu to run most media formats now.
Before anyone suggests Gnucash as an alternative to MYOB.... have you tried using it for NZ business including payroll and GST?
