You should be able to do it using "GParted" on the Ubuntu live cd.

Open the "System->Administration" menu, click on "Gparted".

Make sure the correct hard drive is selected (should be default if you
only have one hard drive).  Click "Device->Create partition table" and
create an "msdos" partition (this should be the default anyway).

However, if you want to do a complete wipe of the drive, last time I had
to use something like:

sudo dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/sda

This will completely overwrite the drive with zeros and will take  a
long time.  Make sure you have the correct hard drive, but if you only
have one drive, /dev/sda should be correct.

There's probably an easier way to just overwrite the boot sector, but
this method should definitely work.
