Subject: [wellylug] Linux-only laptops?
Saluton,
In January 2009 I had a go at finding a suitable laptop to buy for which
I did not have to pay the Microsoft extortion. The only supplier who had
any laptops (other than netbooks) then was Connect NZ and they were in a
highish price range. I put the idea aside hoping that with developments
with Android etc the situation might improve. It has not, so far.
The Nicegear site at http://nicegear.co.nz/laptops/ still says
"Unfortunately none of our suppliers are currently able to supply us
with Laptops without Windows pre-installed. We're trying to find new
suppliers which do but it's pretty hard work."
There are a few USA sites that say they can ship to NZ, but how is one
to know what a particular model is like without seeing and touching it? e.g.
zareason.com sells Verix 1656 (whatever that is) and others
Has anyone managed to find a way?
